Last week’s problem sorted
Suzanne’s young thoroughbred mare has been headshaking and striking when ridden. We put her on the lunge and sent her forward big time. She needed to be lunged in her tack with a whip and pushed into the triangle made by the whip and lunge line. We insisted that she went forward without hesitation, accepting canter if offered but keeping up the pressure. After 20 minutes or a bit more she stopped trying to stop so Suzanne got on board and we sent her forward again in trot. After a while she settled down to look for the contact and was steady in her head. The stride began to have a more regular rhythm. We did this on both reins in trot.
Suzanne has texted to say the next time she was in the arena, she did the same and the mare has remembered and was much better.
